lyrics

Exit 93 ( 3:02 )
Dave Insley (Crawl Daddy Music, BMI)

For thirty years my wife and I have lived out on the road
This sleeper cab's the only place we've ever called our home
Somehow we raised our children in between the mileposts
We taught 'em right from wrong as this truck rolled from coast-to-coast
We traveled as a family every highway in this land
We saw some things that ordinary folks won't understand
We taught our kids to read by watchin' billboards on the way
Sunday's at the truckstop chapel we taught them to pray
Now I've gone and left my little family here to grieve
I crashed that rig out west of town by exit 93
I don't know how I knew to leave my family off this run
We kissed goodbye, I drove away, into the setting sun
A wall of dust closed on me as I braked and turned away
A busload of small children had appeared out of the grey
The desperate swerve that took my life, the fatal choice I made
A trooper said, "Are they alright?" was the last words that I'd say
Well if your out near Tonapah, westbound on highway 10
Watch for the cross that marks the spot just where my logbook ends
My widow's got a job in town, my kids enrolled in school
Please say a prayer to Jesus for all truck driving fools
Now I'm up in Heaven, drivin' big rigs for the lord
I'm haulin' harps and angels wings and bibles by the score
The highway's here in Heaven are much safer than below
But the memory of my little ones is a might heavy load
Now I've gone and left my little family here to grieve
I crashed that rig out west of town by exit 93
