Geneva's Gonna Leave Ya ( 3:51 )
Dave Insley (Crawl Daddy Music, BMI)

"Geneva's gonna leave ya" was something daddy said
He said it nearly every day until the day that he dropped dead
But Geneva never left us, she stuck around thru thick & thin
Geneva was my momma, and she was always good to him
The were just two folks in love back then, when they started raisin' kids
Daddy was a farmer and I'll tell ya what mom did
Waited tables at a cafe by the freeway exit sign
Gave dad all her tips at night, well, except for some mad money that she'd hide
Things were tough and times were hard but in the long run maybe not
They always had each other and lord knows that that's a lot
One by one us children came, and I was number five
I never knew how well-off I was, but I was glad to be alive
The Midwest in the 60's was a fine place to grow up
There were always home-grown vegetables and lots of family love
I learned to drive a tractor before I learned to drive a car
We'd sleep out on the porch at night and count a thousands stars
There were always lots of dogs & cats, and us kids would build a fort
We'd fall out of our treehouses but we never did get hurt
And mom & dad were always there, and they seemed to stay in love
I hope they're still together now in heaven up above
Well the years passed and we moved away to the cities and the coast
But I remember my childhood as the time I loved the most
Geneva never left us then, you know she never left dear dad
She was a rock-of-ages cleft for me, the best mom I ever had
Well Geneva finally did leave us, back in 2001
Daddy had died the year before, and this story is almost done
Time keeps flying past us, just like the windows on a train
But when I close my eyes I can see my dad, and I can hear the words he's saying
Geneva's gonna leave ya, Geneva's gonna leave ya, Geneva, Geneva, Geneva!
